Linus Carl Pauling was an American chemist illustrious . Was born in 1901 and died in 1994 , with 93 years of dedication to research. Pauling was one of the most renowned scientists of the twentieth century , the proof is that he was the one with two prestigious Nobel Prizes not shared . One was in 1954 , as a result of one of his works related to Chemistry ( The nature of the chemical bonds - first published in 1939 ) . The second award was in 1962 , in which Pauling received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work against nuclear testing , the use of atomic bombs as weapons of war and the construction of nuclear power plants .
Pauling devoted himself more to chemistry related to Quantum Mechanics , but had important contributions in the fields of Inorganic Chemistry , Organic Chemistry , Metallurgy , Immunology , Anesthesiology , Psychology , Radioactivity and Molecular Biology ( structure determination of proteins and crystals ) . It is also considered the father of the chemical bond .
One of his contributions , the diagram of Linus Pauling , is widely used in textbooks . Through the diagram is possible to perform the distribution of electrons by sublevels of the electron cloud .
