Weber is one of the founders of sociology , author of " The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism"
Max Weber lived in the period when the first disputes concerning the methodology of the social sciences began to emerge in Europe , especially in his native Germany . Son of an upper middle class family , with her father lawyer, Weber found in your home an intellectually stimulating atmosphere . Was still a child when they moved to Berlin. In 1882 went to law school in Heidelberg. A year later he moved to Strasbourg , where he provided military service .

In 1884 he resumed his university studies at Göttingen and Berlin , engaged in the areas of economics, history , philosophy and law . Worked at Berlin University as a lecturer , while it was government adviser . Five years later , he wrote his doctoral thesis on the history of trading companies during the Middle Ages . Then he wrote a thesis on " The History of Agrarian Institutions ." He married , in 1893 , with Marianne Schnitger , and the following year became professor of economics at the University of Freiburg , by moving in 1896 to Heidelberg .

After that , went through a period of nervous disorders that led him to leave the job . Only returned to activity in 1903 , participating in the direction of one of the leading publications in the social sciences in Germany . The next year he published essays on objectivity in the social sciences and the first part of " The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism ," which would become his most famous work and is fundamental to sociological reflection indeed .

In 1906 wrote two essays on Russia : "The State of Democracy in Russia Bourgeois " and " The Transition of Russia to the facade of constitutionalism ." At the beginning of World War I , Weber , in the rank of captain , was in charge of managing nine hospitals in Heidelberg .

When the war ended , he moved to Vienna, where he gave the course " A Positive Critique of Materialist Conception of History." In 1919 he gave lectures in Munich , published under the title " General Economic History." In the following years died following an acute pneumonia
