Immortality of the soul in Plato

Immortality of the soul in Plato
Different concepts of soul were plotted over the centuries by Philosophy . Plato , for example , talked about the immortality of the soul , intrinsic to man unit.

The man is his soul
The man is his soul
The Greek word Psykhe is the term used by many writers of antiquity to the understanding of what would come to call the Latin anima or soul. From Homer , she wins contours of smoke , shadow, a less dense aspect of what is the body . Philosophy itself, with Anaximenes , believes that the soul is a breath , a kind of moving air and moving corporeal things , cooling them and keeping them in motion ( just note that the body does not breathe , so the body dies or is at rest ) .
However , from religious and mystical conceptions , such as Orphism and Pythagoreanism , the notion of soul was gaining more conceptual contours , even dialectically, without attempting to form an absolute position on it or demonstrate it to be. Plato was responsible for this change . In several texts , the author addresses questions about the soul , but not always a position that is unambiguous . We'll some of them, so that they can comprise a set address .
First, when an attempt to define the man , you see that is either body or is a mixture of body and soul , or the soul is . This is because , before the discussion, it is evident that the body is ephemeral , transitory and part of a structure . The soul is the intrinsic unity (or psychic , as will be told later ) to man . The man is his soul.
Have another dialogue, the soul is bound to language , but being associated with the body, the relationship suffers with this . Thus , when the body is evil, the soul can also become ill and treatment should be carried to the base of what we now call psychosomatic therapy ( psyche = soul ; soma = body) . This only reinforces the previous position of being the soul psychic unity of man .
In a third approach , the body is treated as the place where dwells the soul it is the expression or signal ( semainei ; sema = sign, it seems to sum ) of the soul . Thus , the soul is different from the body and uses it as a tool for achieving its purposes .
But only in the dialogues of Plato maturity can give an outline on the subject with greater detail . When conceiving reality in different instances , sensible and intelligible ( the latter being the basis of knowledge, since it is stable , immovable , immutable, eternal , equal , uncreated , etc. . ) , The world of ideas , as an object of knowledge , need a guy like him . It is well understood that the soul is the principle of movement , creating life, but participating in what is divine .
It is through the soul known to man , according to Plato . The body and the sensations explain "how" things are. The soul and intelligence explain " what" things are. That is why the soul is the transit time between the two worlds , the intelligible and sensible , although their characteristics are given by the intelligible world . The soul must be similar to what it seeks , or aspires : ideas . And while incarnated in a body , death refers only to that part material , divisible , multiple , unstable . The soul as a unit does not dissolve , but rather seeks , according to the eschatological myths that Plato recounts , improving from a series of reincarnation cycles . The atonement is given for faults committed in past lives the soul keeps in memory and contemplating the intelligible makes his choice of life you want to live. Then again sets in motion to perform its trajectory , but the body becomes an obstacle and is partially forgetting that included in the intelligible world. This is how he seeks knowledge in an attempt to purify the soul , through intelligence . The soul is therefore subject knowledge .
