Aphrodite

Aphrodite is a goddess in Greek mythology . She is the goddess of love, beauty and sex . Corresponds to daMitologia Roman goddess Venus . In the cities of Corinth , Sparta and Athens, Aphrodite was worshiped much .
The goddess Aphrodite was born in Cyprus , and for the story of his birth there are two versions :
- According to the version of Hesiod , Aphrodite was born in an unusual way . After Cronus cut off Uranus organs ( his father ) and throw them overboard , formed around these organs a white foam which , mingling with the sea, like a fertilization, which gave rise to Aphrodite.
- To Homer , more conventional , Aphrodite was the daughter of Zeus ( God of Gods ) and Dione ( goddess of the nymphs ) .
Aphrodite was married to the god of fire , Hephaestus . But it had several lovers , both gods and mortal men , and of their adventures were generated several children .
Eros , the god of passion and of love , and Anteros , the god of order, are children of Aphrodite with Ares , the god of war . Eros also known as Cupid.
Hermes , the messenger god, the god Aphrodite generated Hermaphrodite (mixture of parents' names ) , which had the characteristics , besides the beauty of the parents , the sexual organs of both genders .
With the god Apollo had the son Hymen ( god of marriage) , and Dionysus the god of pleasure and wine parties , had the son Priapus , the god of fertility , who had large genitals and not bad looking .
Aphrodite also begat a son of mortal Anchises , who was called Aeneas, and was a hero of the Trojan War seduced other mortals like Adonis , Phaeton and Cíniras .
Despite being known as a goddess of love, Aphrodite was very vindictive , and had no mercy on his enemies . Had as main rivals the goddesses Hera and Athena . Incidentally , his quarrel with these goddesses gave the Trojan War
In celebrations of Aphrodite , the priestesses that were accounted sacred prostitutes , and sex with them was considered a rite of worship. The parties were considered " aphrodisiac " , giving rise to the term.
Various artists ( painters and writers ) since the time of Renaissance , portrayed Aphrodite, as Botticelli , in his work " The Birth of Venus " .
